7-billion-opportunity-ignored-by-3-out-of-4-brits

A new survey found that “9% of households in the UK are considering installing solar” (IET survey). Let’s put that into perspective.

  • 26.4 million households in the UK
  • 2.4 million are considering solar (9% of 26.4 million)
  • 10 million are suitable for solar (ICL research)
  • So, 76% of suitable households are not even considering solar!

That means a ridiculous amount of money is being left on the table (or quite literally, left on the roof!).

A typical home solar installation benefits its owner more than £700 per year in the UK. Visit Generaytor.com to see how your own roof could do (it’s free).

So the UK’s 10 million suitable roofs could earn their owners a collective £7 billion annually!

With billions to be gained, what’s the holdup?

Many would assume it’s the cost. But financing programs like the Green Deal greatly reduce upfront cost, enabling people to pay for their solar system over time with the savings and income it generates.

The British public have a highly favorable opinion of solar: 85% approve according to a DECC survey. So why are 3 out of 4 homeowners with a suitable roof ignoring this opportunity for themselves?

The real barriers left to solve are uncertainty, complexity, and simply human nature – most of us don’t like making long-term decisions.

UK solar has a bright future ahead

The good news is, there are more than 500,000 solar roofs in the UK so far, and a new installation happens every 5 minutes. These homeowners have successfully “gone solar,” and now have knowledge and experience to share with friends and neighbours.

And even more promising – they are sharing!

Generaytor makes use of their actual solar performance data to give any homeowner a personalized simulation, including a clear breakdown of costs and benefits. So it’s easier than ever to join the group of people considering solar.

As to finally making the decision, the support of people nearby who have already gone through with an installation can certainly boost one’s confidence.
