VELUX Model Home 2020 building site

The VELUX Model Home 2020 project is an innovative scheme, which aims to provide an example of sustainable homes that are practical, comfortable and appealing to the homeowner while remaining affordable and easily replicable for the mass house builder. The project involves the construction of two new semi-detached homes in Rothwell, Kettering, that have been designed to deliver a 70% reduction in carbon emissions with the remaining 30% of carbon offset by allowable solutions.

Ahead of building work starting on VELUX’s two zero carbon homes, Bovis Homes, the build partner, is now close to finishing the preparation work on site. This has included mapping out an access road across the natural wildlife corridor. Building services are now on site and we would expect official hand-over to VELUX to take place in early July.

The Model Home 2020 project will showcase VELUX’s ‘CarbonLight Homes’, which aim to provide an innovative new solution to zero carbon living. As well as dramatically reducing carbon emissions the properties will also seek to balance the needs of the buildings’ occupants and promote a healthy way of life.
