Whatgreenhome.com has today, 8 April, initiated a kitemark scheme that denotes developments that it feels are worthy of recognition because of their commitment to sustainability. There are three levels of kitemarks: Excellent; Highly Commended; and Commended. The Kitemarks are awarded annually to developments that are profiled on whatgreenhome.com.
An Excellent kitemark is only granted to developments that have achieved five green ticks on whatgreenhome.com; Highly Commended is awarded to developments that have achieved four green ticks; and a Commended kitemark is issued to developments that have achieved two or three green ticks. Should any development receive a red cross in any one category it disqualifies them from being awarded a kitemark.
Editor Gordon Miller said: “It is important that the public has an easily recognisable ‘stamp’ that will guide them when considering which eco-friendly home to buy. In the UK the Code for Sustainable Homes provides one indication, but when it comes to homes in Europe and elsewhere in the world there is no one scheme that covers them all. Our aim is that the Whatgreenhome.com kitemark will be the benchmark by which all developments’ environmental credentials worldwide can be easily gauged.”
