Warm Front Helpline

The Warm Front Scheme ended on 19 January 2013. You can’t apply for it now but existing applications will still be processed.

The Warm Front scheme is run by Carillon Energy Services.

Warm Home Discount Scheme

For winter 2013 to 2014, you could get a £135 discount on your electricity bill through the Warm Home Discount Scheme.

The discount won’t affect your Cold Weather Payment or Winter Fuel Payment.

Renewable Heat Incentive

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) helps businesses, the public sector and non-profit organisations meet the cost of installing renewable heat technologies.

The types of heating covered by the scheme are:

  • Biomass
  • Heat pumps (ground source and water source)
  • Geothermal
  • Solar thermal collectors
  • Biomethane and biogas

Conditions: You can't currently apply for the RHI to install renewable heating in your home.

Cold Weather Payment

If you’re getting certain benefits, you may be able to get a Cold Weather Payment.

Payments will be made when your local temperature is either recorded as, or forecast to be, an average of zero degrees Celsius or below over 7 consecutive days.

Winter Fuel Payment

You could get between £100 and £300 tax-free to help pay your heating bills if you were born on or before 5 January 1952. This is known as a Winter Fuel Payment.

You usually get a Winter Fuel Payment automatically if you get the State Pension or another social security benefit (not Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction or Child Benefit).

Feed-in Tariffs

Get money for generating your own electricity!

If you generate your own electricity (e.g. with solar panels or a wind turbine) your energy supplier might pay you money.

You’l get a set amount for each unit (kilowatt hour or kWh) of electricity you generate. The rates vary depending on:

  • The size of your system
  • What technology you install
  • When your technology was installed
  • Who put the technology in place – you need to use a certified installer

Renewable Heat Premium Payment

You could get money to help with the cost of installing renewable heating technologies in your home.

For example:

  • Solar thermal hot water – £600
  • Heat pumps – up to £1,300
  • Biomass boilers – £2,000

The scheme was extended until the end of March 2014.

Energy Company Obligation

Help from your energy supplier.

You might be able to get help for energy saving improvements to your home if you’re on certain benefits and own or privately rent your home.

You may get all or part of the cost of:

  • Loft or cavity wall insulation
  • Boiler repairs or replacements

Green Deal

Make energy-saving improvements to your home or business without paying all the costs up front – insulation, heating, renewable energy technologies, cashback scheme.

Energy saving improvements include:

  • Insulation – e.g. loft or cavity wall insulation
  • Heating
  • Draught-proofing
  • Double glazing
  • Renewable energy technologies – e.g. solar panels or wind turbines

You may be able to claim money back from the government for your Green Deal home improvements through the Cashback scheme.
